A Tale of Two Braids

Sammy said he wanted me to cut it off, so I had to say goodbye to his glorious long locks yesterday.

so long

So, after his bath, I took the scissors we bought at Fred Meyers, and...

CHOP, CHOP, CHOP!

SNIP! I've never done a radical haircut before, just a trim here and there, so I was a bit nervous when I saw this...

YIKES!

but Sam loved it , he wanted Daniel to take a picture of him with his severed braid.

braid no more

I recovered my aplomb and bravely dived in with my scissors and comb again.

so long, long hair

Voila! So CUTE!-I wanted a portrait of the two of us.

mama n Sam

Then I got my own amputated braid down. I cut MY long hair off over a year ago, then dyed it 'rage' red. It's grown out-and mellowed out-quite a bit since then.

two braids

And everybody lived happily ever after.

Do you happen to have a "Locks of Love" near you? They collect long hair that's been cut to make wigs for cancer patients, etc. I can understand not wanting to donate hair for sentimental reasons, but it might be an interesting thing to do. Yep, totally not any of my business at all! *grin*

WOW! I love the picture of you two against the backdrop of your earlier portrait.

Locks of Love is awesome, a friend of mine grew her hair out past her butt just so she could donate to them. But I think they need a minimum of a foot of usable hair-our braids are long, but not that long! I think I may use them for a sculpture project.

Have you heard of old fashioned hair weaving? A friend of mine has a piece made from the hair of his great - great - great something. A mother son thing, especially with the contrast of light and darker would be striking.

I'd love to see your sculpture when you're done -- I love sculpture made with unique materials and found objects, etc.

Every time I see hair like that cut I have to sigh...
Mine started deserting me when I was 18 heheh
(Ask Daniel about my father, and the his likely influence on my early hair desertion) :)

Nicole, I'm thinking I may do a portrait of Sam and I, perhaps in clay, then braid our hair together and wrap it around the border... I'll definately post whatever I make.

Bill, they say balding men have too much testosterone-so I guess that just means you're a REALLY manly man!
