Tell Dan to install Mt-Blacklist. It works pretty darn well at blocking like 99% of the spam, and if someone nails you with like 10 in one day, you can put it on your list and hit "de-spam" and it'll delete all of the spam comments for ya in one operation.

I've been pretty happy with it. Still gotten 2 or 3 spams, but keep adding them and you don't see the same ones twice...
